Grain and Rail 2009
Dear CEO/Councillor
Please find attached a Grain on Rail – Local Government Communication Strategy and Flier.
You may be aware from the State Council agenda and Info Pages that WALGA in partnership with the Local Government Grain Freight Infrastructure Joint Zone Working Party continues to lobby State and Federal Government to invest in the WA grain freight network. Representatives from this Working Group are meeting State and Federal politicians to reinforce the impact of rail closure on Local Governments and local communities.
A partnership has been developed between CBH, ARG, WestNet Rail, the WA Farmers Federation and WALGA to urge Government investment in the grain freight network.
A Grain on Rail campaign website,
http://www.grainonrail.com.au/ has been established to highlight the importance of the network and need for government investment.
Rail closure will have a significant impact on country and metropolitan Local Governments through increased truck traffic. A Grain Freight Infrastructure Local Government Communication Strategy has been developed to assist Local Governments raise this critical issue both with Government and the community and a flier developed which can be distributed through email or printing to raise the message.
The flier and Strategy available for download on the WALGA website at
http://www.walga.asn.au/about/policy/infrastructure/grain_on_rail.
We hope that all Local Governments can assist with raising this issue with their communities and Government and help to keep grain on rail, and that the attached documents will assist with this endeavour.
