There are some rules that we must follow.....

The Geographic Names Committee have strict naming policies and standards that the Shire must follow.  These include:

Commemorating an individual will only be considered:

  • posthumously
  • permission of the immediate family must be obtained. Where the person has been deceased for more than 10 years and contact with the immediate family could not be established , appropriate consultation must be carried out
  • based on a demonstrated record of achievement
  • having had a direct and long-term association with the location and made a significant contribution to the area or with an outstanding national or  international reputation

They will not be considered if:

  • current or past ownership of the land is not considered sufficient grounds
  • Existing names for a road within 50km of new road name
  • past or ongoing public service within all levels of government
  • names will not be supported after a person who has sponsored the development of the area, or was a commercial developer

You can make your suggestions via Share Your Thoughts.  You can also email reception@wandering.wa.gov.au or by mail addressed to the CEO, 22 Watts Street, Wandering, 6308.  Submissions are due by the close of business on Wednesday 30th June 2021.  Suggestions must include the proposed name, the reasons why you believe the name should be used, and evidence of family or community support (if possible).
